4th of July Extravaganza! - 7/4/2008
Don't miss the fantastic 4th of July event at McCarthy Park. Opening ceremonies take place at 4:00 pm with Veterans raising the flag to the Star Spangled Banner sung by Megan Waltman. Join us for free games, penny carnival, inflatables, sand art, free watermelon, contests, bingo and more! This year's musical entertainment features the Hat Guys, playing on the main stage from 5:30 - 9:15 pm. The evening wraps up with our award-winning fireworks show beginnig at 9:15! Boys Summer Lacrosse Camp - 7/7/2008 to 7/11/2008
Boys in grades 4-12 can learn the fastest game on two feet at the Park District's Summer Lacrosse Camp beginning July 7. The camp runs through July 11 and all equipment will be provided. Camp is taught by staff from the Chief's Lacrosse Club. Residents $45, Non-residents $68. Register by July 3. Grades 4-6: 10:00am-12:00pm; Grades 7-8: 12:00-2:00 pm; Grades 9-12: 2:30-4:30. Register today for Adult Fall Softball. Leagues will be offered for men's 12" on Tuesday & Thursday evenings, Monday evenings, or Sundays. A Co-Ed 14" softball league is also offered on Thursday evenings. Fees vary. Register by July 31. Games begin the week of August 21....more info


Shedd Aquarium Trip - 7/16/2008
We invite you and your friends to come along and enjoy the fun on our trip to the Shedd Aquarium. All ages are welcome! Trip includes transportation and admission to the aquarium, oceanarium, wild reef, and a special exhibit. Lunch is on your own. The bus will depart from the Recreation Center. Family Camp Out - 7/18/2008 to 7/19/2008
Everyone had such a good time at last year’s Family Camp Out that we decided to offer it again this year. Bring your tents and sleeping bags for a fun evening of camping under the stars. We’ll have activities for both young and old including a movie on our giant blimp screen. White Water Canyon will be open until 10:00 pm for everyone camping out. Space is limited so please register early. The registration deadline is July 7. Tents and a limited number of pop-ups and travel trailers will be allowed. Ingalls Health System will conduct sports physicals for athletes age 12 and up on Wednesday, July 23 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. Venetian Night Trip - 7/26/2008
The 51st Annual Venetian Night is set for Saturday, July 26, 2008. Around 30 lighted boats participate in the parade, which is followed by a fireworks display that is synchronized to music. Attracting a crowd of more than half a million people, Chicago's magnificent lakefront is transformed into a nighttime venue of fun. We will be taking a coach bus downtown from Palos (location and time announced during registration) and dropped off near the event. A designated time will be announced on the bus ride to Chicago explaining when we will be due back to the bus for our ride home. Please feel free to bring food and snacks along! Register by July 1. Cantigny Park Trip - 8/10/2008
Cantigny Park is a 1,000-acre estate of formal and informal gardens, picnic groves, hiking paths and two museums, the Robert R. McCormick Museum, the 35-room former residence of Colonel Robert R. McCormick and the 1st Division Military Museum, devoted to the First Division of the United States Army of World War I. Tour both museums, walk the gardens, enjoy a buffet brunch at the Fareway Restaurant from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. (lunch is on your own) or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at one of the beautiful picnic groves at the park. Brunch reservations are required after 12:30 p.m. if you would like to dine at the restaurant (call 630-260-8193 in advance).
