Tinley Park-Park District Special Events

Looking for a day of fun and activity? You've come to the right place!

The Tinley Park-Park District organizes a variety of special events for everyone! Whether it's a Clover or Easter Egg Hunt, a trip to see a play or professional sports team, a Mother/Son Sock Hop, or just shooting some baskets at the Rec Center; we've got something that will excite you!

Upcoming Events

Stars and Stripes 5K Run/Walk
presented by First Midwest Bank

Date: Saturday, July 4
Time: 8:00 a.m. (registration opens at 7:00 a.m. on race day)
Location: McCarthy Park (16801 S. 80th Avenue)
Age: All
Fee: $16 without shirt / $22 with shirt (pre-registration) ... $30 with/without shirt, if available (race day)

Awards will be given for first, second and third place runners in all age categories, male and female, based on chip timing. An award will also be given to the fastest overall resident and non-resident male and female runner. Tech shirts will be awarded to the first 550 registered participants. Preregistration closes June 26 at 3:00 p.m. Registration and pre-registration pick up will open again at 7:00 a.m. on race day at McCarthy Park. Packet pick-up will be held June 27-28 from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Recreation Center.

4th of July Celebration

Dog Park Passes on Sale

Date: July 6, 2015
Location: Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center (8125 W. 171st Street)

Yearly passes for memberships at the Canine Campus Dog Park will be available for purchase at a later date. An informational packet with rules, regulations, and vaccination forms can be downloaded by clicking HERE.

Keep an eye out for more information about the Canine Campus Dog Park, including when passes officially go on sale and when the park opens for operation. A Grand Opening Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the park.

Each show will feature a new type of artist. Free water and lemonade will be available while supplies last. Refreshments will be available for purchase. In inclement weather, concerts will be held in the Recreation Center Gym.

Cool Friday Nights at the VVAC

This summer, stop by the VVAC for a night of art and jazz. Enjoy the VVAC gallery reception inside, featuring fine art done by local and well known artists. Then take a stroll outside to our gazebo to hear live jazz selections to accompany the evening.

Dogs of Summer Beach Party

Date: Saturday, July 11
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Canine Campus Dog Park (84th Avenue and Nielsen Drive)

Join us for our Dogs of Summer Beach Pawty at the Canine Campus Dog Park! For this event we are bringing the water to the dogs, with sprinklers, baby pools, and water toys for the dogs to play in. Please bring your own towels! In addition we will have goody bags for dogs that come to the party, and light refreshments for their 2 legged friends! This event is recommended for dogs 20+ lbs.

Movie in the Park: The Lego Movie (PG)

Date: Wednesday, July 15
Time: Dusk (please call for approximate start time after 5:00 p.m. on day of the show)

Join us this summer for free movies under the stars. Make sure to bring your own blankets or chairs, and maybe even a picnic! Free popcorn, water and lemonade will be available while supplies last. In inclement weather, movies will be held in the Recreation Center Gym.

Family Camp Out

Date/Time: Friday, July 17 at 4:30 p.m. - Saturday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m.
Location: Community Park West Parking Lot, near Water Park (8221 W. 171st Street)
Age: All
Fee: $15 per campsite (family of 4) / $5 each additional camper

Bring your tent and sleeping bags for a fun filled night under the stars. Planned activities include a late night movie on our giant blimp screen, campfire complete with s’mores, star gazing and more! White Water Canyon Water Park will be open until 8:30 p.m. for everyone camping out. All campers will enjoy a continental breakfast in the morning. Space is limited, register early. Tents and a limited number of pop-up and travel trailers will be allowed.

Comedy Improv and Open Mic Night

Fee: *$8 per person (*there is no fee for open mic talent that confirm their spot by July 8)

Our family-friendly show has been enjoyed by audiences since 2010. Join us at our state-of-the-art theater and be prepared to have fun, laugh until you drop and especially share your own talents at our thrice yearly Comedy Improv and Open Mic Night. Both KIDZ ON THE BRIDGE and GRAFFITI ON THE FOURTH WALL Comedy Improv
Troupes will perform. After, we’ll then open the stage up to anyone wishing to sing, do stand-up comedy, perform magic, present a monologue, dance, perform a scripted or
improvised scene, or simply tell some jokes.
