Tinley Park-Park District Special Events

Looking for a day of fun and activity? You've come to the right place!

The Tinley Park-Park District organizes a variety of special events for everyone! Whether it's a Clover or Easter Egg Hunt, a trip to see a play or professional sports team, a Mother/Son Sock Hop, or just shooting some baskets at the Rec Center; we've got something that will excite you!

Upcoming Events

Calls from Santa

Date: November 1-30
Location: Tony Bettenhausen Recreation Center (8125 W. 171st Street)

Ho! Ho! Ho! The Park District has made special arrangements for children age 4-10 to receive a call from Santa Claus. Calls will be made from December 4 to December 18 between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Santa’s convenience. Participants must register at the Park District office between November 1 and November 30 by completing one of Santa’s special calling forms. If there is more than one child in a family who wishes a call from Santa, Santa will make one phone call and talk to each child. He will not make several calls.

Comedy Improv and Open Mic Night

Date: Saturday, November 28
Time: 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Location: Tinley Park Performing Arts Center (16801 S. 80th Avenue)
Age: All Ages
Fee: $8 Admission

Join us in our theater and be prepared to have fun, laugh until you drop and especially share your own talents at our Comedy Improv and Open Mic Night. Both KIDZ ON THE BRIDGE and GRAFFITI ON THE FOURTH WALL Comedy Improv Troupes will perform, then we’ll open the stage up to anyone wishing to sing, tell jokes, dance, do a monologue, magic, their own improv scenes, etc. Please contact us at (708) 342-4200 to be placed on the Open Mic performers list and get your free ticket.

The Board of Commissioners holds regular board meetings on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The public is always welcome.

VVAC December Reception

Date: Saturday, December 5
Time: 1:00-4:00 p.m.
Location: Vogt Visual Arts Center (17420 S. 67th Court)

Join us for the artists' reception for the December/January gallery - Dollhouse and Miniatures - on display at the VVAC from December 5, 2015- January 23, 2016.

Children/Teen Theater: "Dickens' A Christmas Carol"

During the Victorian era, stingy and cranky Ebenezer Scrooge, who hates Christmas, loses his partner Marley on Christmas Eve. For seven years, he runs his business exploiting his employee Bob Cratchit, and treats his own family and acquaintances with bitter behavior. However, this particular Christmas Eve he is visited by the doomed ghost of Marley who reveals that three spirits will visit him this night. The first one, the spirit of past Christmas, recalls his miserable youth; the spirit of the present Christmas shows him the poor situation of Bob’s family; and the spirit of future Christmas shows his fate. The question is, can or is he willing to change?

Children/Teen Theater: "Mystic Chimes: The Legend Dawns"

What are these enchanted chimes? Why are an evil jinxa and other treacherous rogues interfering with the adventures of an eclectic group of friends? What will become of them if they’re victorious in their quest? Join our mysterious, sometimes dark, often humorous, story of courageous youngsters searching for an ancient talisman, and pursuing an extraordinary wish. This, the prequel to the classic tale of PETER PAN will challenge your imagination.
