The Tinley Park-Park District organizes a variety of special events for everyone! Whether it's a Clover or Easter Egg Hunt, a trip to see a play or professional sports team, a Mother/Son Sock Hop, or just shooting some baskets at the Rec Center; we've got something that will excite you!

Theater Auditions

Date: Saturday, January 31

Auditions for 2015 Spring theater performances takes place all day at the Tinley Park Performing Arts Center.

"We The People" - Children's Theater
Time: 9:00-11:30 a.m.
“How can you say a few words about America?” So begins this patriotic tableau as a committee discusses putting on a patriotic show for their town. Just what does America mean to them? One person pulls out the Preamble to the Constitution, and they decide to use it as a framework for their play. Through a series of sketches organized from the Preamble, they show in both dramatic and comedic ways, not only how the Constitution applies to our past, but also to our present and future. This Norman Rockwellesque patchwork quilt offers slices of life in our America and will be a salute to the children performing in it. This production will be cast with children 7-12; no previous acting experience necessary. Note: Due to the popularity of our plays, we can only guarantee roles for the first 40 children who are put on the audition list. Others will be placed on a standby list, in order. "Phantom of the Opera Audition" - Teen Theater
Time: 12:00-2:30 p.m.
In this classic horror story, Christine Daaè, an opera singer at the Paris Opera House, attracts the attention of the Phantom of the Opera, who falls madly in love with her. The Phantom is a violent, mad, musical genius who secretly lurks about in the hidden catacombs beneath the Paris Opera House. The Phantom, who must hide his disfigured face behind a mask, kidnaps Christine and takes her to his lair in the Opera’s cellars. There, he reveals his true identity to Christine and attempts to force her to marry him by threatening to blow up the opera house, killing all those within including Christine’s true love, Raoul. The suspense never ends in this masterful, spellbinding tale of obsession. A tour de force! This production will be cast with children 13-18; no previous acting experience necessary. Note: Due to the popularity of our plays, we can only guarantee roles for the first 30 teens who are put on the audition list. Others will be places on a standby list, in order. "Monsieur Monet Auditions" - Adult Theater
Time: 3:00-5:30 p.m.
The reflective story of the magnificent art, impressionistic age and enduring hardships of Oscar-Claude Monet…and the painter’s greatest love outside his art, Camille Doncieux. Set in France during the last two centuries, our play takes us to Paris, Le Havre and Giverny, where Monet co-founded the French Impressionist movement. This will be a multimedia event incorporating theatre, music and, of course, art. Please join us in this world premiere and help create a truly enchanting moment for our audiences. Become a member of our cast and theater company, giving your talents a unique opportunity. If you’re new to the stage, let us help you develop your talents into the skills you’ll need for the best of classic and contemporary theater. Please note: there is no program fee for the actors.

Graffiti on the Fourth Wall Comedy Improv Show

G4W, now in its 19th year, is a professional improv company with over 800 performances under its belly-laughable belt. You’ll enjoy these comedic actors satirical improvisations and sketches as well as humorous parodies and hilarious material. Every month will feature an all new comedy revue and, of course, improvisations from your suggestions. All material is family friendly.

Tot Time Preschool Registration Begins

Date: Sunday, March 1

Registration for the 2015-2016 Tot Time school year begins today for Residents. All Tot Time registrations received March 1st through March 9th will be processed by random selection beginning March 12th. Your child will be placed in the first class you requested, or if that is filled your second or third choice. A confirmation/receipt will be mailed/emailed to all those registered for Tot Time. Resident In-Person registration begins March 19, 2015 at the Bettenhausen Recreation Center. Non-residents can register for Tot Time beginning April 1st at the Recreation Center.

Prizes will be given to children who find the special clovers. Treat bags will be distributed to the first 100 children in each session. This event will be held rain or shine! Registration is not required, just show up for the fun. Children age 3-5 start at 4:00 p.m., while children age 6-10 begin at 4:30 p.m.

Spring Arts and Craft Fair

This fair highlights many of the talented crafters in the community. Exhibits are open to the public at no charge. If you would like to be an exhibitor, please stop by the Park District office to register. NOTE: commercial items are not eligible for this show. Register by February 18.

Jelly Bean Contest

Date: Tuesday, March 17 through Tuesday, March 31

From March 17 through March 31, there will be a jar full of jellybeans in the Bettenhausen Rec Center. Come in and guess how many jellybeans are in the jar. Prizes will be awarded to the two children who come closest to the exact count. Children age 3-12 only, please.

Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Bunny invites you to join him in our Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt. Be ready to visit with our special guest - the Easter Bunny! Bring your flashlights. Easter baskets or bags will not be allowed on the playground. No need to register, just show up for the fun! This event will be held rain or shine. Children age 3-4 begin at 7:30 p.m., while children age 5-8 begin at 8:15 p.m.

Variety Show Night - "Southland's Got Talent" Contest

$8 admission. All ages show. Our contest was such a success last year, we have been asked to offer this again. Join us and be prepared to have fun, laugh until you drop and especially share your own talents at our Comedy Improv and Open Mic Variety Show and Contest. This season we’re changing it up...the audience and panel of judges will be awarding prizes to the top 3 contestants, so bring plenty of family and friends. Also, both Kidz on the Bridge and Graffiti on the Fourth Wall Comedy Improv Troupes will be assisting with the contest while performing their own brand of wit and zaniness (they will not be contestants). If you wish to sing, tell jokes, dance, do a monologue, magic, your own improv scenes, etc., this is the stage for you. Special note: Watch for our new monthly TV series on Comcast Channel 19, Yes and...Improv On The Covered Bridge featuring Graffiti On The Fourth Wall and Kidz On The Bridge comedy improv troupes, sponsored by the Tinley Park-Park District.

World's Greatest Mom Essay Contest

Date: Tuesday, March 31

Tell us in fifty words or less why your mom is the greatest mom in the world. Two winners will be selected from each division: Grades 1 and 2; Grades 3 and 4; Grades 5 and 6. First prize is a gift certificate for breakfast and a beautiful corsage for mom. Second place winners will receive a beautiful corsage for their mother. Entry forms will be available at the Park District office on March 31. Entries must be submitted by April 21. Winners will be notified by May 1.

Children age 2-3 meet from 11-11:45 a.m., age 3-5 meet from 4:30-5:15 p.m., and age 6-10 meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Giant Garage Sale - "Second Hand Treasures"

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure! Get the family together to do a little spring cleaning, get rid of those white elephants taking up room and gathering dust and sell those difficult-to-part- “treasures” at the Annual Second Hand Treasures Garage Sale. It will take place in the White Water Canyon Parking lot. Exhibits are open to the public at no charge. If you would like to be an exhibitor, register early. The Park District provides advertising and a selling space. Call the Park District for price and availability of spaces.
