This delightful 3-acre neighborhood park was acquired in 1999. Facilities include a playground, shelter, pathway and soccer field. This park was originally known as Bristol Park.
On May 6, 2020, Tinley Park-Park District was proud to pass a resolution renaming the park in honor of former Police Chief Mike O’Connell, a Tinley Park native who died on May 11, 2011 while serving as Tinley Park Police Chief. His career began in 1972 in Riverdale where he became police chief. In 1995 he joined the Tinley Park Police Department as police chief. Chief O’Connell served on the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police executive board for many years. He was named the 2005 Police Chief of the Year by the Illinois State Crime Commission. We are proud to honor and recognize his lifetime of compassionate and committed service to his community and to the Tinley Park-Park District.

The Tinley Park-Park District has sustained an increased number of vandalism incidents this summer, in particular at Vogt Woods Park located at 6527 W. 171st Street. Multiple areas within the park have been tagged with vulgar, inappropriate graffiti and buildings, playground equipment, tables and benches have been damaged or broken. This vandalism has occurred almost daily over the course of the past few weeks. We have been working with the Tinley Park Police Department, but we need your help, too.
The District takes great pride in providing outdoor amenities for residents and visitors, and our staff works hard to maintain the premises. We ask and encourage residents that if they see something unusual happening in the parks system, to please notify the Tinley Park-Park District at 708-342-4200 or the Tinley Park Police Department by calling non-emergency dispatch at 708-532-9111.
Thank you for helping us keep the community’s parks safe, clean and enjoyable for everyone!
