Chief Mike O'Connell Park

This delightful 3.5 acre neighborhood park was acquired in 1999. Facilities include a playground, shelter, pathway and soccer field. This park was originally known as Bristol Park.

On May 6, 2020,  the Tinley Park-Park District was proud to pass a resolution renaming this park (formerly Bristol Park) in honor of former Police Chief Mike O’Connell, a Tinley Park native who died on May 11, 2011 while serving as Tinley Park Police Chief.  His career began in 1972 in Riverdale where he first became police chief.  In 1995 he joined the Tinley Park Police Department as police chief.  Chief O’Connell served on the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police executive board for many years and was named the 2005 Police Chief of the Year by the Illinois State Crime Commission.  We are proud to honor and recognize his lifetime of compassionate and committed service to his community and the Tinley Park-Park District.
