TINLEY PARK, IL: The Tinley Park Community Theater hits the stage this November with the hilarious production of “The Nerd” by Larry Shue. Set in Terre Haute, Indiana, “The Nerd” centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect, Willum Cubbert, who is visited by Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded. Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. However, Rick’s awkward manner and inappropriate behavior throw the occasion into shambles as Rick overstays his welcome with a vengeance.
There are four performances scheduled for “The Nerd”: November 7 at 7 p.m., November 8 at 3 p.m., November 14 at 7 p.m., and November 15 at 3 p.m. Each performance will take place at the Tinley Park Performing Arts Center (16801 S. 80th Avenue) in Tinley Park. Doors open 20 minutes before show time.
Director Andrea Fleming explains that the cast has been rehearsing for two months now, and that set construction has begun. This is Fleming’s first season as director of the Tinley Park Community Theater, yet her 10th year directing. She has acted for over 30 years, including the Tinley Park Community Theater productions such as “The Foreigner” (Betty Meeks) and “Sweet Obsession” (Mom).
“The cast is really coming together with their characters and staging,” said Fleming.” We anticipate a large audience for this great production.”
