Job Title: Superintendent of Recreation

The Tinley Park-Park District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Superintendent of Recreation. This full time position will join the leadership team of department managers reporting directly to the Executive Director. The Superintendent of Recreation is responsible for administrative planning, organization, and supervision of Park District leisure services. The Superintendent oversees four recreation supervisors that handle over 1,200 annual programs and activities for all ages, including but not limited to performing arts, day camps, special events, preschool, senior activities, and athletics.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in recreation, park administration, or related field with a minimum of three years supervisory experience in the recreation environment, or a Master’s Degree and two years experience in conducting recreation activities
- CPRP certification or have the ability to gain CPRP certification within 6 months of hire
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with all park district staff and departments, as well as the general public
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and promote the implementation of diversified programs in recreation and related services for the community
- Supervise full- and part-time personnel in the Recreation Department
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and supporting materials, work programs, and financial records for district programs as assigned
- Manage all personnel matters including recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of department staff
- Maintain required records of departmental activities, services, and property
- Attend and participate in department staff meetings
- Prepare reports for the Executive Director
- Prepare board reports and attend board meetings
- Establish and maintain cooperative planning and working relationships with local community agencies and other organization
- Supervise fieldwork students and graduate interns
- Coordinate production of seasonal brochures
- Work with the Marketing Manager to develop marketing plans and communication strategies
- Oversee operation of the Vogt Visual Arts Center, Tinley Junction Miniature Golf Course, and Performing Arts Center.
